Caroline McArthur

Caroline is an illustrator in Santa Cruz, California, with a penchant for design, people-watching, and the idiosyncrasies of strangers. Her illustrations are recognised for their roguish sense of humour, and identified by their off-kilter figural compositions and characteristic warm colours. Her recent work features a range of hand-drawn and painted illustration, digital illustration and block printing.

Caroline’s work is inspired by her experience of inhabiting an imperfect, doughy flesh suit in a digital world. Her illustrations touch on our relationships to nature, to work, and to our bodies and minds, bringing dark absurdity and colour to editorial, branding, packaging and advertising contexts.

Caroline’s background in architecture and installation design inform her creative and professional practice. She’s a dab hand at DIY and problem-solving, and brings these skills to every project.  Past clients include the BBC, Peirene Press, and Grand Journal.
